Quake in Java creates panic strikes

In the town of Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta, residents left their homes and stayed in the streets after an earthquake hit at 12:14 p.m. for almost one minute. It was a 6.5 magnitude earthquake that causes them to panic. Same thing happen to Bantul where they were somehow warned by the beat of bamboo tubes when the quake struck.

“The quake was pretty strong. I am still traumatized by my memories of the 2006 disaster when the earthquake completely destroyed my house,” said Ngadiman, a Bantul resident.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency said that the quake was really strong that it affected the areas of Kebumen, Magelang, Semarang and Yogyakarta.
