Laguna Representative, Sol Aragones, has proposed an additional benefit in the House Bill 339 or the Pregnant Women’s Protection Act. This additional benefit was said to be a medical leave of one day each month during a woman’s pregnancy in additional to the 60 days maternal leave.
“We have laws that grant women maternity leaves and benefits, and other financial support after they have given birth. However, these laws fail to aid women while they are pregnant,” Aragones noted.
House Bill 339 also includes training for barangay health workers and nutrition scholars who assist women in their pregnancy. Free consultation and free and/or discounted medicines shall also be provided in government hospitals and health centers to promote good health in pregnant women.
