Manila Archbishop discourages “simbang gabi” in malls

The church should be the place for celebrating the Simbang Gabi as well as chapels with the consent of the parish priest. Thus, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle is discouraging the celebration of the nine-day Simbang Gabi in malls.

“We wish to encourage the practice of Simbang Gabi, whether at dawn or in the evening, because it is a source of spiritual nourishment for our faithful,” Tagle said.

The Archdiocese of Manila is calling for a complete dawn masses starting this December 16 until Christmas Eve.

Tagle added that masses should not be held in malls where the Eucharistic Celebration is very open to shoppers.
