The new Google translate handwriting, what’s with it?

While on a trip and you just don’t know what that certain sign/character means then Google might help you! With its latest invention – the handwriting tool.

Here’s how to use it. If you came across with an ‘unknown character’ you just simply go to Google Translate and draw on your smartphone/tablet what that character looks like then the program itself will do the translation for you.

“Handwriting input lets you translate a written expression, even if you don’t know how to type the characters,” Google product manager Xiangye Xiao wrote in a blog post. “For example, suppose you see the Chinese expression ‘[the character in the image above]’ and want to know its meaning in English, but have no idea how to type these characters. Using the new handwriting input tool, you can simply draw these characters on your screen and instantly see the translation.”
